Planning Permission granted for Key Infrastructure in Clonburris SDZ

Planning permission has been granted for essential strategic infrastructure in Clonburris Strategic Development Zone (SDZ) in the form of the South Link Street, paving the way for the impending start of the development of the overall SDZ lands and delivery of this planned new urban neighbourhood in South Dublin.

Spanning 280 hectares, Clonburris is located on the Dublin-Kildare railway line and Grand Canal, 12km from the city centre or a 12-minute train journey to Heuston Station. When complete, Clonburris will deliver more than 9,000 new homes for 23,000 people with retail and commercial hubs.

The approval of the South Link Street relates to 4km of roadway, bike lanes, pedestrian footpaths, sustainable urban drainage network and water and foul water network. The South Link Street will enable development of over 4,000 new houses to the south of the railway line, as well as urban centres, schools, community facilities, parks, and commercial space.

This project will form part of the €176.6 million funding secured by SDCC for Clonburris under the Government’s Urban Regeneration and Development Funding (“URDF”) in March 2021 to cover the costs of abnormal strategic public infrastructure. Construction of this key piece of infrastructure is anticipated to begin in Quarter 1 of 2022, subject to Government approval for the release of URDF funding.
